NaNo2017, The Kick-off Party, and more!

Posted by Niassa on October 24, 2017 in NaNoWriMo 2017 |

How in the world has it already been a year?! I know as we get older the time seems to pass faster, but this is ridiculous. Didn’t we just have a kick-off party a couple of weeks ago? Crazy, crazy!

This will be long, but will have a TON of information, so please bear with us.

First, and probably most important, one week from tonight at midnight, NaNoWriMo 2017 will officially begin! ONE WEEK, PEOPLE! Time to sharpen those pencils, get out the new notebooks, dust off the travel laptop, clean out the old hard drives, prepare the travel mugs for copious amounts of caffeine… whatever it is you do to prepare for the onslaught of words, mischief, sleeplessness, and fun that November inevitably brings.

We have an AMAZING amount of events for you this year, starting with our annual kick-off party! Here are the quick kick-off party details (more information can be found on the *OFFICIAL KICK-OFF PARTY THREAD* in the forums):

  • Date/Time: October 31st from 10pm to 2am
  • Location: Enchanted Grounds of Highlands Ranch (8800 S Colorado Blvd, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126)
  • What to bring: Food to share (potluck style) — Please note: As Enchanted Grounds is very generously staying open an additional 4+ hours to accommodate us, we would like to repay their kindness by having our attendees NOT bring beverages as part of the potluck, and instead either bring a solo beverage for themselves, or purchase a drink from Enchanted Grounds (select the link to view their menu of wonderful beverages).

Our calendar has been updated with all current write-ins. Write-ins labeled as *OFFICIAL* mean that an ML will be present. Write-ins labeled as *CWI* mean they are an official NaNoWriMo Come Write In partner.

A NOTE ABOUT WRITE-INS THIS YEAR: NaNo HQ asked our region to participate in some data gathering regarding write-ins. When you attend a write-in this year, you will be asked your NaNo username and whether or not this is your first year participating in NaNo. This will happen at every write-in. If you are someone that is hosting a write-in this year, we will be reaching out to you about how to collect this information to get it back to us so we can report to HQ.

I want to be clear that NO PERSONAL INFORMATION will be shared with anyone—this is strictly for HQ to get a feel for number of regional attendees who go to write-ins. In fact, once we MLs have compiled the data, we will not even share usernames. Usernames are just so we can see how many unique participants attend each write-in, how many are repeat attendees, etc.

Speaking of write-ins… we have a couple of very special and unique write-in offers this year:

  • Wednesday, November 24th, 10am: Write-in at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science! (More information about this write-in to come on the forums soon.)
  • Saturday, November 25th through Sunday November 26th: OVERNIGHT write-in at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. (More information about this write-in can be found in this thread.)
    • We will also try to set up some other fun things around this event, including looking to book one of the ghost tours at the Stanley on Saturday before the write-in begins. More info to come!
    • Please note: To stay overnight, there is a cost associated with this write-in.
